Assemblyman Jay Obernolte, R-Hesperia, was named Tuesday to a leadership position in the state Assembly.

Obernolte, who represents the High Desert, was named an assistant Republican leader by Assembly Republican Leader Chad Mayes, of Yucca Valley.

Mayes announced his leadership team for the upcoming legislative session, naming eight other GOP lawmakers from the Assembly Republican Caucus to top positions.

As an assistant Republican leader, Obernolte “will work closely with members and staff to identify and recommend options to maximize caucus opportunities,” Mayes’ office said in a statement.
